ANGELA M. NEAL-BARNETT, Ph.D.

 

Expertise:                                Anxiety disorders among African American women, adolescents, and children, acting white, child and adolescent psychopathology, image issues among African American women and girls

 

 

Dr. Angela is an award-winning psychologist and nationally recognized expert on anxiety disorders among African Americans. She has authored numerous articles and book chapters on the topic and her research is cited in the Surgeon General's report on Mental Health: Culture, Race, and Ethnicity. Dr. Barnett is the recipient of grants from the National Institute of Mental Health, National Institutes of Health, Ohio Children's Trust Fund, Ohio Commission on Minority Health, Ohio Board of Regents, and the Health Priorities Trust Fund.

A recipient of the American Psychological Association's Kenneth and Mamie Clark Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Professional Development of Ethnic Minority Graduate Students, Dr. Barnett also served on the faculty of the Harvard-NIH-Kellogg funded Next Generation Project. She directs the Kent State University Psychology Group, a program designed to give undergraduates of color the knowledge, skills, and attitude to succeed in graduate school.
